:)

(via)

Wahoo, it's Friday! So far I've hobbled to the bathroom and landed in a nest Ryan built me out of blankets on the couch. You know what makes the best boyfriend on earth? The fact that not only did he set up my computer and the TV remote beside me on the couch, he also moved the coffee pot in here so I don't have to get up!!! Gosh I love that man.

I was real upset last night when I was up all late, midnight blogging. Today I feel a bit more optimistic, but am really hoping the doctor isn't like "Hey Nova, don't walk for three weeks." or something, because basically my entire life depends on walking at the moment. I guess that's what UI is for, right? And laptop computers. Anyway I still can't walk without swearing, and have caught myself daydreaming of wheelchairs, so I guess it must be serious enough to take it seriously.

For now, I'm watching Zombieland and waiting for Ryan to get home with the car to drive me the four blocks to the dr's office.

---

So I just remembered this morning that I wrote nothing about The Random Sam's visit to Victoria! That guy just may be the most interesting man in the world, for real. We had many beers over the two days he spent here, and he told me many stories beginning with that time he was in South Africa surrounded by racists and cage diving with great white sharks, or the time he ended up pissing at a party between Jamiroquai and Pete Tong. But he's not a name dropper or a travel-place dropper, these were all relevant stories to the conversation.

It's hard to find an interesting world traveler type who won't shut up about themselves, but Sam is a true gentleman in that he makes you feel interesting too, somehow. Ryan took a couple pictures of him and I together in our favorite dive bar, Big Bad Johns.

(The lighting in the pictures was kind of terrible so I had to totally mess with them so you could see what was going on without us having bright orange skin.)

He's long gone now, on the second leg of his amazing adventure. Here's the last video he made before he got here, where he arrives on the West Coast after cycling for almost three months.

Now he's on his way to Argentina, and then...the world! I don't know. One of the best parts of his videos is when he gets Americans to try Marmite for the first time on camera.

Actually, you know what, Marmite company? You should sponsor the hell out of Random Sam. He's doing this whole trip for a good cause (raising money for cancer research AND dyslexia action), and it wouldn't hurt for you, Marmite, to gain a more international audience. I'd never heard of the stuff until I was in my mid-twenties, and that's only because I met travelers in Mexico...including RANDOM SAM! No joke. He's been spreading the word for years.

People, spread the word about Random Sam if you can, he's cycling down from Washington to California right now along the coast. And maybe shoot an email or something to Marmite about sponsorship. Sam is basically a real cool hobo, living on good intentions and a savings account.

For more Sam, follow him on Twitter. He's always up in there. And here's a link to his blog

Late night pain blogging.

Well guys, I hurted my feet today. Like, actually kinda bad. And I have no idea what I did, which is the crazy thing. I'm pretty sure they're both sprained; the google told me that's what it probably is. Nothing like a self-diagnosis, right?

It was so weird, I was just walking to work and all of a sudden, hey, my foot kinda hurt. And then...oh my gosh it hurt quite a bit. But I was like half way to the bus stop and thought I could walk it off. By the time I got to work I was limping. It hurt bad! And then? The other one started hurting.

It feels like, pretty much take your ankle, sprain it, and then take that feeling and put it into the middle of your feet, but not at the arches where it would seem to make sense. It's on the other side, like, inside. And I'm not a foot-pain baby either.

Right now I'm walking like I'm wearing ice skates on land. It's a real slow balancing act to not make me shout out "AAAH FUUUCK". So I guess I'm going to have to miss hanging out with Mikel and having fun at a busy day at work tomorrow. I told those clients I'd see them Friday. Now I'm not gonna see them at all!

My best boss on earth gave me nice, sitting down type jobs to do at work and at the end of the day he drove me all the way home. Which is like, 45 minutes out of his way. Everybody, Gerry Effing Kramer is awesome.

When I got home I grandma-walked into the house, pulled off my shoes and couldn't believe my eyes. The tops of my feet are bruised as hell. You can't really see it in these pictures because of the awesome tan lines and the sick tats and the too-much lighting, but believe me, it's all like WHOA when you notice it in real life.

From what I can tell it's a really mild sprain, because I can still walk-ish and they don't hurt when I'm sitting down, and they're not too swollen, so that's awesome anyway. I'm going to hit up the awful doctor's clinic tomorrow morning and see what they say, but I really don't know how I'm going to get there because I can't fucking walk. I even crawled down the hallway to get to bed this evening.

Right now it's nearly midnight. I can't sleep. I'm sitting here feeling so very sorry for myself and my pathetic crying was keeping Ryan up, haha. It's just so weird for me. I don't normally hurt myself or miss work for being sick or anything, and if I do, it's because I am all drugged up on cold medicine and sleeping all day. This is different, it's really frustrating! Grr! Hey, at least Louis CK is on Conan tonight, that's two of my favorite hilarious gingers in one show!

Things I Love Thursday!

This luchador pin I got in a market in Mexico for like, half a peso.I have a few and wear them all the time. I wish I had bought more, but they seemed so common and stupid while I was there.

I also love...

That the book The Help was rejected SIXTY times, but Kathryn Stockett never gave up.

Jamie on Jeggings - especially this:

The back pockets could actually hold something, but I will never put a single thing in there for fear that the weight of even just my iPhone will bring my jeggings to my knees. If my iPhone pantsed me in the middle of the streets of Paris, I’d have to retire. Retire from what? Oh, life.

I don't know who made this, but it is the best GIF I have ever seen.

These beautiful photos of Frances Bean Cobain. She's 19 now! Can you believe it? I remember her  when she was thiiiiis big. (small hand gesture)

Winning a rad prize from a giveaway on The Dainty Squid! When it arrives I'll write a full post. :)

My sister is on Twitter and Tumblr now. Follow the hell out of her, she's gonna be a star someday!

I'm also on Twitter and Tumblr. Just sayin'.

***UPDATE*** I was just over at Caitlin's TILT post, and she put so many cool things up, I wanted to quickly share them here as well, rather than bookmarking them and then passing them off as things I found myself.

And last but not least, these 'neon signs'

upside down tattoos

This is what I actually look like when I'm blogging:

Like...no bra, bad hair, zits, freckles, glasses, lazy, glazed eyes, unwashed hair, yesterday's t-shirt.

---AND---

Hey fellas, I got some new tattoos, since apparently I'm just posting ten thousand pictures of myself on the internet today I may as well show you.

1. OSM = awesome

2. Upside down.

We need to talk about this one a little bit, internet friends. Because I am so very sick of telling people their tattoos should face away from them. You know how many times a week I hear "It's just for me, I want to be able to read it"? Literally at least three times a week.

No.

Just...no.

Because, just listen. It's UPSIDE DOWN that way. You already know what it says, but everyone you meet for the rest of your life will be like "what?" because IT'S UPSIDE DOWN. This became such a big joke around the shop, especially between me and Cody, and I have had to explain it so many times, that I decided to just get it tattooed on me.

Literally, when he put the stencil on I had "No, it's facing the wrong way" on the tip of my tongue. And now, sometimes when I see it I have a mini freak out. MY TATTOO IS UPSIDE DOWN!! LOL

woody!

Huh huh huh HA Ha.

ALSO, my sister just started a Tumblr blog. Her online persona is very fragile, she needs some love and some followers to solidify it. And I've been bugging her to start a blog forever so I feel semi-responsible for its success or failure.

If you have a tumblr account follow her!
You can see what the town I grew up in looks like, she still lives there.

A book I did not enjoy, and some mail that I did!

I thought this book was something else when I started reading it. But then it wasn't and I didn't really enjoy the direction it took. Also? It's a kids' book, which I wasn't expecting. So I wrote "free book" in the cover and left it on the bus. I hope somebody finds and enjoys it, and it doesn't just end up in lost and found forever.

And now for something positive. Erin "Disaster" and I did a rad trade. I sent her this, and she sent me this:

(It's a 35mm back for my Diana F+ camera, and some expired 120 film too!)

I already threw the 35mm back on the camera and have been toting it around with me ever since. I'm so stoked that I'll be able to use the Diana more. Processing 120 film around here is ridiculously expensive, especially because I'm still learning about the medium format camera world. One good photo ends up costing me like twenty bucks.

I also got this in the mail, which I forgot I won in a blog giveaway like a month ago!

I win!

Standing in places, and photoswap part 1 of 2.

So Meeling got the photos I sent to her developed and was kind enough to share them with me... and I took three pictures of my own feet on one roll of film. Come on, me. What's up with that?

Oh yeah, and then there are three blurry pictures of Tank, too.

Anyway I'm ultimately rather pleased with how all the pictures turned out. I took them all over the normal course of my days, three days in a row. Here's the rest of them:

(sorry for the watermark, but you guys know the internet...also, I spelled tattoo wrong? What the hell, Nova?)

Not bad, huh? I took all of these with my grandma's old camera that she passed down to me.
Canon AE-1 ftw
