Yellow on Yellow and something you should never watch.

These flowers are planted on the corner right beside a McDonald's drive thru. I saw this cute li'l bee and so I crouched down with my stripy underwear sticking out of my shorts and everything right in the road, in front of everybody ordering their Mc.Beef Shakes to take this picture. You're welcome.

I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you to never ever watch the film Begotten unless you want to have nightmares for the rest of your life. A client at work was telling us about it, because he overheard Kyle telling me about Fantastic Planet. And so we found the trailer on YouTube and ... well here it is, but just, seriously, be prepared, because it's really scary creepy footage of dead bodies and torture and stuff from.

Wikipedia says:

"The film deals with the story of Genesis. But as Merhige revealed during Q&A sessions, its primary inspiration was a near death experience he had when he was 19, after a car crash. The film features no dialogue, but uses harsh and uncompromising images of human pain and suffering to tell its tale. It also has no music, instead, the movie is accompanied by the sounds of crickets, and occasionally other sound effects such as grunting and thrashing.
The film was shot on black and white reversal film, and then every frame was rephotographed for the look that is seen. The only colors are black and white, with no half-tones. The look is described in the trailer as "a Rorschach test for the eye". Merhige said that for each minute of original film, it took up to 10 hours to rephotograph it for the look desired."

diptych: pretty plants edition

I originally wrote a mean thing about this beggar who pushes his wheelchair around with his legs, so he goes backwards and runs into people all the time, but it was a bit too negative for this fine summer morning, so instead, here's a bonus picture of a car that I took like six or seven years ago with weird film camera I thought was disposable until I brought it in for processing.

I originally judged it as a failure, because I didn't know that 'happy accidents' exist in photography.

Did you notice it's a Chevy Nova? :)

Retracting my previous statement.

The other day when I mentioned that some pretty roses just basically magically appeared in our front yard after I said something about liking two-tone roses...well that was only my side of the story. Ryan was all bummed that I made it sound like he just ran out to the full-grown-roses store or something. The truth is, he's been working on our front little garden for weeks.

And to my unobservant brown-thumbed self, it was like magic. All of a sudden, one day pretty roses were everywhere. Because I don't really even know what's involved in making a rose survive.

I'd like to apologise to you, mister Ryan, for not recognizing all the hard work you put into the yard.

Just so you all know how crazy beautiful these flowers are, I didn't do anything to the pictures. No cropping, no color saturation tricks, nothing. They look surreal when you're walking up to our house, like somebody colored on them with hi-lighters or something.

It must be spring, and a lesson for bloggers everywhere.

I realize that the majority of my posts lately have been straight-up pictures and not much more. If you're like me, you read 45 trillion blogs and you wouldn't have even really noticed except for that I just told you. But for those few of you who are probably all like "oh man, that might-as-rella chick is so uninspired and I HATE PHOTOGRAPHY" I just wanted to say that I've been feeling really un-talkative lately, and really focused on real life. Sometimes blogging is a treat, and sometimes it starts to feel like a chore.

Actually, let's turn this into a lesson for bloggers that I've finally learned after years of practice:

Always keep a week or two worth of posts lined up ahead of time. I try and schedule my 'things I love Thursday' and my 'music Monday' stuff like a month in advance, plus some other things as well, just in case I get a case of the negatives or some big personal event happens in my life. That way the blog still goes on as usual, and is fairly consistent.

I've been in a negative kind of hating everything space for like a month. Finances are not working out the way I'd like, and that can really affect the way a girl feels about herself after a while. That kind of thing would feel good to blog about until the moment I hit the publish button, and then I would completely regret it. You guys really don't want to hear about me eating Mr.Noodles for the third day in a row no matter how empathetic you may be. Complaining is not what my blog is meant for. I love to share joy, humor and pretty things most of the time, with a side of ranting. Not the day to day doldrums.

Anyway, that's what's up. And I actually did take these next pictures just yesterday, so don't feel like you're getting stale ol' crappy pictures from three weeks ago or whatever. Same with the camera pictures, that did just happen a couple days ago...

And now back to my regularly scheduled post:

----------

You know how I know it's spring? We stood outside at work yesterday for like half an hour, half the city was drunk before 4pm and coming into the tattoo shop asking me if I had any condoms (?), and
the Cherry blossom trees are blooming...
and covered with little notes hippies tied to them.
