In a series of uninteresting events, Ryan and I ended up sleeping on mattresses in the middle of the living room last night. I woke up disoriented and scared because I heard a noise, and looked towards the fireplace. Where there was a ghost.
Okay well, I actually think my top and bottom eyelashes were kinda glued together with gunk and what I saw was just the streetlight shining into the living room window and reflecting weirdly off my eye gunk, thus forming some kind of irridescent orb-y thing that looked vaguely human. Also? I was probably still half dreaming.
Anyway the point of the story is this: I kicked it and it disappeared.
My first instinct wasn't to rub my eyes, scream, wake Ryan up or run. It was to kick the ghost. And it totally worked. So I hope that phantom learned its lesson and never sneaks up on me again.

STAR WARS and other projects

(star wars cookbook Ryan found at the library)
I have not seen Star Wars.
And I'm finally at the point in my life where enough is enough and I should really just watch it. From the Family Guy movies to Spaceballs to ... um ... every single pop-culture medium ever ... I'm pretty sure I have seen enough references to the movie to know the plot.
I think I might watch them someday and kind of write out my reactions, because the movie isn't a surprise to anybody in the world except for me these days and it might be funny to read.
Right now that seems a little ambitious but that's what summer time is for. In fact, I'm planning a project for once school is over so my brain doesn't whither away: there's a teeny little video rental place near(ish) my house and they have a section of Foreign Films and Documentaries. I was looking at them and thought how cool it would be to watch them all. So I think I might. And kind of do a review for each one.
Fun, no?
I also had this idea that I should watch every 'cult classic', and every movie that everybody but me has seen and write about them as well.
For example, Teen Wolf. I just saw that movie like three weeks ago for the first time. I could revisit Porkys and Revenge of the Nerds and look at them from a 21st century perspective.
Maybe.
We'll see how the summer goes. I might be much too busy enjoying myself and not having midterms all the time.

why have I not read this before?
I really like the surrealist manifesto. ("Le Manifeste du Surréalisme" André Breton, 1924)
I have always wondered what it is about manifestos that make people crazy enough to read them, memorize them, and carry pocket sized books about them. Now I know, because I sort of feel like this little thing is talking about the way I think and the art I appreciate. It kind of gets me, in a totally hippie existential bill-and-ted "woah" kind of way, know what I'm saying?
"Let us not mince words: the marvelous is always beautiful, anything marvelous is beautiful, in fact only the marvelous is beautiful." (Breton, 1924)

just some whining.
i really have to get a grip on my new schedule. or somehow magically turn into super magic energy girl, because at the end of every day this week i've practically fallen through the front door of our house, grouchy and "sooooooo tired".
i haven't done laundry in a week, and little things like charging my camera battery or going to the bank feel like treks through the andes to me. it's not like i'm sleeping less or getting more exercise or anything. i guess it's just the stress of starting new (all spanish) classes, plus taking the bus SO MUCH and having a weird new work schedule that the boss and i can't seem to get straight and so i keep showing up at the wrong time or when they don't even need me...
but mostly it's the bus
the bus is like a big fat killer of dreams.
okay that might be a bit dramatic, but it really does steal my soul a little bit every day.
at least i don't have to pay $74 for a month of the bus while i'm in school. does that seem high to anybody else?
ahhh at least a fine cuppppa coffee will make this morning bright. and i thought i heard a rumor that one of the guys from work was driving his truck by my house this morning......mayhaps i can glean a ride?
i dreamed that i kept overflowing the bathtub and all my family and friends were sleeping at the breakfast table until i turned on the lights, and i felt like it had some kind of significance but when i opened my eyes it all dissolved into bits and pieces that are not coherent anymore.
i read somewhere that one theory about dreams is that your brain has all these pictures inside from various thoughts and things that happened throughout the day or whatever, and it tries to make up a story that connects the images, and that is what a dream is. that's why sometimes you can be flying in an airplane that is also somehow a fancy restaurant and suddenly you're wearing a bear costume.
i think that makes sense.
