diptych: wooden sunglasses and some prescription drugs
FINALLY the sunglasses I won through Kaylah's blog have arrived! I've been holding my breath for weeks! They're a rad pair of tumbleweed's custom made red and wood glasses. They fit like a dream and make me look pretty darn cool.
And the drugs are for my stupid feet because it turns out they're not broken but I have plantar fascitis, aka inflammation of the plantar fascia, this weird bit of tissue in the bottom of your feet. It takes months, and sometimes years, to heal. And yeah...it hurts enough for me to have thought I broke bones in my feet.
Lesson I learned the hard way: TOMS shoes, Vans shoes, Converse, and other flat shoes with no support...they are great. I love them. They look cool and feel comfy. BUT you should never ever wear them for extended periods of walking. Never wear them for sports or dancing. Please, everybody, invest in good shoes or insoles for your "bad" shoes, even if you feel kind of dorky. Because there's nothing cool about having something wrong with you that's most common in 60 year old men and obese people, crying in the back room at work, and crawling from the couch to the bathroom because you can't walk. Take it from old lady Nova, it sucks ass.

LOOK WHAT I WON! (Alternate title: Zoe is awesome.)
In February I basically put my name in a hat to win a hand-made cross-stiched brooch from Zoe at A Giraffe in a Scarf. And I won! The fun thing about this giveaway was in the comments section of the blog that was hosting it, (My Girl Thursday) all the contestants had to write down some stuff they were interested in and then Zoe would take the winner's list and use those ideas to make their brooch.
I said:
My favorite things are my white cat and my bulldog, hearts, coffee, vintage Halloween stuff, Russian-tattoo-inspired things, and photography.
I was secretly hoping that if I won, she'd ignore the hearts and coffee and go for either a cat, a bulldog (because how hilarious would that be?) or the Russian Tattoos thing. I'm not like, into criminal tattoos but they are SO INTERESTING and cool looking, I thought I'd mention them there and see what happened.
Well, I won! And I just found out that Zoe spent 8-9 hours stitching this thing! Amazing! The work is so detailed and pretty, and the brooch is AWESOME!
Click here to read what she found out about the Russian cat design. It's pretty bad-ass!

I took some pictures of me being a major dork with it. Uh, so here they are.
Here's me being surprised that it's pinned to my chest...(?)
Thank you SO MUCH for putting so much hard work into this, Zoe! I love my new (and only) brooch!

Also exciting, yesterday I bought myself a floor ticket to see SLAYER! (SOOOOO EXCITED) And I ordered my first ever pair of TOMS shoes from their website. In grey. Although the sparkly ones really wanted me to buy them. Maybe next time.

I won something. AND I'm giving something away!
Thank you SO MUCH Diana (from Our City Lights) for having a Lomography camera giveaway. And then thank you random dot org for choosing my name out of all the participants. You guys, I entered a giveaway and actually freakin' won it! I never win these things. (I actually found out I won two in the same week, I'll tell you guys about the other one when I get the thingy...it's in the process of being made right now.)
No matter how much I e-mail harassed her, (sorry!!)Diana never announced the winner officially, but since I got it in the mail yesterday I couldn't wait any longer to tell you guys about it.
I won...

I haven't dared put film in it yet...it's a little intimidating and strange, but boy is it neat. I'll try it soon and keep y'all updated.
AAAAND...I'm involved in a pretty sweet giveaway over at Pamplemousse this month. Among a ton of really cool things, you can win three postcards that I made with my own camera, sense of humor, and computer skills, haha. Here's what they look like:
They all feature very horrifying beautiful pictures of spiders that I found in my backyard, and they say "Spiders Are Gross". You should CLICK HERE to see the giveaway and enter it, you wiener!

Six Confessions
Hey dudes, what's up? Nah, just kidding, I don't care. *
Me? Oh, not much. Just chillin' with my impacted wisdom teeth. We're good buddies these days. Lots of crazy headaches and whatever. Also, I may or may not have won not one, but TWO really effing sweet blog giveaways. But neither of them have made any official announcements, so I wouldn't want to give it away ahead of time and steal their thunder. Oh yeah, and I changed up the layout of this blog a little bit since the last time you were here. I made all the stuff in the sidebar the same size, because I know that kind of thing really bugs some of you, and I changed the widths of stuff so I could post larger images. Real exciting stuff.
*totally joking, btw
After seeing bloggers like Leigh-Ann, Kelly Ann, Katie and Kyla Roma post their six confessions, I was inspired to do a post of my own! Here are six things you could have probably guessed about me but I'll tell you anyway. And then you should go check out all those other people's six things. LISTS ARE AWESOME.
1. I talk out loud to my pets. And I use weird voices and do weird things...basically anything that will get a positive reaction from them. Ryan asked me what I talk about with the cat one day, like about the weather or what? And I got all offended and told him "We don't talk about those things. We talk about cat stuff."
<-- So basically, this is me.
2. I (sort of) steal umbrellas. I kind of feel like they're a disposable commodity, which I know is crazy, but I've lost my share of umbrellas on the bus, in doctors offices, etc. and I'd like to think that somebody who needed it was using it. When I find an umbrella stranded on a bus, I'm not like "Hey I really should give this to the bus driver, and then subsequently this umbrella will be returned to its rightful owner."
I'm more like "Score, free umbrella." because honestly, it's very likely that this particular collapsible black umbrella is just going to end up in a giant lost and found box along with 80 other collapsible black umbrellas.
3. I hate getting tattooed and I'm a huge baby. BUT I'm (usually) pretty good at closing my eyes and trying not to whine too much, haha. And it's always worth the pain in the end so I keep doing it. But seriously, it hurts! It's awful! I'm getting my chest tattooed next month and am already panicking about it.
4.Pancakes make me physically ill. Like, I throw up. I gag if I think about them too much and they make me angry. And yes, I love waffles. It's only pancakes. I know it's all in my head but I just can't even... uuugh. I hate even thinking about them. I think it stems from a time in my life where we were so broke all we could afford was pancakes for dinner. I just used up my entire allotted amount of pancake tolerance for this lifetime already. Or at least that's my theory.
5. I have a compulsion to "rescue" worms when they're on the sidewalk. I can't walk by a worm on a sidewalk without picking it up and putting it somewhere more suitable, like the grass. And it's not like I know anything about worms other than that they have five to seven hearts (depending on who you ask) and they can regenerate body parts if you cut them up (which I would NEVER DO and you shouldn't do it either. EVER).
A little part of me always wonders if mister worm had spent all day psyching himself up to finally leave home, cross the big sidewalk and move on to bigger and better things, and then took hours and hours to wriggle his way to where I discovered him. Then I just pick him up and put him back where he started. Like, would he be angry at me? I don't know, it's weird. Anyway, I love earthworms.
6. I think I have been having small panic attacks recently. On the bus it's happened a couple times, where I feel like ... uh, it's hard to explain. Like my chest is too small and I have to run away. Yesterday in the bank waiting in line for the ATM I literally had to stare at my shoes and tell myself that 'Yes, I can breathe, stop freaking out.' And it seemed to last for like ten minutes, although now when I think about it, that sounds like hyperbole. I mean, how long could those people have been standing at the bank machine?
I've also had trouble in grocery stores a few times. Once in particular I was with Ryan and as we were walking in to the store I just stopped at the doors saying "NO NO NO I CAN'T GO IN THERE" and literally backed away, haha.
But heck, who hasn't had a panic attack in this day and age, right? Especially you bloggers! It's practically a rite of passage. At least I'm not on any drugs! (Yet?)
So those are six things about me. If you do your own six things, leave me a comment with a link to it. Like I said before, Lists Are Awesome. I'll totally come check it out.

jacket button win!
My winter jacket was in the closet. When I pulled it out, I was almost late for work. I was in a hurry. I put it on and went to button it up...
But it was missing both its buttons!
NOOOOOOoooOOOOooooooOOOO!
So I did what any irrational human being in a rush would do; I checked the pockets. And yeah, there was a button there. But only one. And I didn't have time to sew it.
So I safety pinned it on. And then I took the decorative pin that was on the collar, and used that as a second button. Three days later, they're both still working out well, and I think it looks kind of cool.
(don't mind the cat hair)
Check out the winter boots. They're "Alberta rocker chick"
according to my boss. I just thought they were pretty.
(boots by rocketdog)
My jacket is like a metaphor for the entire unpreparedness of this city for the sudden winter. I mean, look at this mushroom! The flowers! The leaves!
The bicycle that maybe should have gone into the shed!
What a funny place I live.

My grandma...redemption.
You know how a grandma of mine sent me a (2 years early) thirtieth birthday present a week ago and I was all sad? Well look what else she sent me!
OH. EHM. GEE.
My brother's in town for a couple weeks so my posting might end up being either really short like today's or we might be super bored because we're both totally poor and simultaneously be on our laptops in the same room sitting right beside each other, which is what's going on right now. In which case, yeah, better blog posts.
We're on our way to the grocery store to get some sugar for his coffee, mix for booze later, snacks and uh...whatever else I impulse buy.
Anyway I took more pictures of everything that came with the thing and I'll probably post those later. If not, just know that there's too many lenses for me to comprehend, and a bunch of things that I don't know how to use. Yay!

NEW HAIR CUT!
The unstyle-able, unshape-able self cut mess I had before:

Yeah, maybe I messed it up extra good for the picture to make it seem even more unruly, but seriously, it was just bad all around and I always always always had it in a ponytail or up somehow.
Ashley from The Lab is so fantastic. Not only is she excellent at hair stuff, she's a genuinely nice person, she somehow remembers small details of my life I told her six months ago which makes me feel special, and she's an intelligent person who knows all the cool stuff that's going on in the city. I wouldn't say I have a non-sexual crush on her exactly, but I am definitely intimidated by her awesomeness every time I go see her.
Anyway,
on with the show!

I specifically asked for

and I got 'em!
